Press release, The Telegraph, 15 November 2017

In 2009, an ICC arbitral tribunal ordered the UK to refund Iran USD 592 million for the tanks it was supposed to deliver but never did. It was announced that United Kingdom will soon repay a debt of USD 527 million to free Zaghari-Ratcliffe, a British-Iranian charity worker sentenced to 5 years in prison in Iran. According to the Telegraph, this transaction might actually be the pay-out of the ICC award. However, British and Tehran governments denied there was any link between the debt and Zaghari-Ratcliffe’s case.
